Equinox Completes Above Ground Steam Pipeline

Equinox has recently completed this 8 km above ground steam pipeline project in the Cold Lake region of North Eastern Alberta. The pipeline includes 24” steam, 24” emulsion, 3” fuel gas and 8” casing vent gas pipelines. With the installation of four parallel pipelines, design challenges included space constraints posed at road crossings, valve stations, as well as well tie-in areas.

A total of 6 km of roads with 7 intersections and 13 pipeline road crossings were designed. Expansion loops where installed every 230 metres with animal crossings following every 250 metres. 7 valve stations were designed to feed the pipelines into the nearby central processing facility.

Pipeline routing faced heavy challenges in the more remote regions of Northern Alberta, Canada, including muskeg and cold weather environments.
